Herbicide Found in Breast Milk

Here at FruitShare, we know how important organic fruit is. Not only does it help keep harsh chemicals away from farmers, workers and their families, and keeps those chemicals out of the environment, but it also keeps chemicals out of your body. Even when you wash fruit, you can’t rinse away all the chemicals, because they are taken up through the plants’ roots and are inside the fruit itself.

So, we weren’t surprised – but we were appalled – that a new study has found the world’s top weed-killer in breastmilk. The herbicide is called glyphosate, and it is found in the brand of weed-killer called Roundup. A study from 2009 published in Scientific American found that the chemicals in Roundup are lethal to human cells. Glyphosate was found in 3 of 10 of the mothers tested in the U.S. in a new study from Moms Across America and Sustainable Pulse.
