What Pesticides are on Oranges?

Oranges are one of the most popular fruits, especially at this time of year. But if you’re eating conventionally-grown oranges instead of organic ones, you’re not just getting lots of vitamin C and antioxidants. You’re eating the pesticides and synthetic chemicals that are used on non-organic oranges. According to the Pesticide Action Network’s What’s On My Food, these pesticides include:

6 known or possible carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals)
11 suspected hormone disruptors
7 neurotoxins
7 developmental or reproductive toxins
7 honeybee toxins

So, along with the good things in a conventional orange, there are also chemicals that can cause cancer, interfere with your nervous system, disrupt your hormones, affect young children and babies, and contribute to the decline of the all-important honeybee.

Forget all that – eat organic instead. Not only will you get all the good without the bad, we’re convinced our oranges taste better. That’s because they come from small farms where each piece of fruit can be left on the tree to ripen longer, which allows the flavor to intensify and sugar levels to rise.
