Face it: exercising alone can be boring, and even working out in groups can feel a little stale after awhile. Good thing there are plenty of ways to shake it up and also experience the wonderful Twin Cities in a new way by joining in one of the many groups that workout in the many parks in and around the cities.
Granted, it’s terribly hot and humid this week in the Twin Cities, so outdoor workouts might not be the healthiest decision at the moment. But find a friend and choose a group so you can be ready to join in when the heat wave breaks.
Here are some ideas:
Gorilla Yogis – free/donation-based yoga classes in unexpected places all over the Twin Cities; the most recent gathering was in the Walker Art Center’s Open Field!
National Dance Day – July 30, everywhere! Three routines have been put together by the choreographers of Fox’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance. Get together a group of friends, learn a dance and hit the park on July 30 to show off your moves! Videos of the choreographers teaching the routines can be found here.
Find or create a team. It can be anything from baseball to volleyball, biking to kickball – just get out and have some fun!
For outdoor events in your area, check out meetup.com. You can find upcoming events or activity groups, and even start your own. It’s a great way to find others nearby with interests similar to yours.
In the meantime, tell us: what’s your favorite outdoor summer activity?
